Edit: Use the stupid shader!

Stupid Shader

I (Thai) came up with an initial art style… This may change though but was what I came up with.

I used a technique called “Gradient Mapping” to map lightness to color domain.

Using GIMP

  1. Open an image, scale it down to 1920 pixels wide and desaturate it. Use any desaturation basis.

  2. To give each color an equal chance of appearing, use the Equalize filter.

  3. Use the Gradient tool and configure as follows

  4. Perform a Gradient Map. You can try Inverting the colors before doing Gradient Map.

  5. Convert to Indexed color mode, generating an optimum palette of 8 colors.

  6. Export the image. And there you have it.
